Elderpark trio complete KiltWalk in aid of community radio station
Elderpark Housing has completed a tartan fundraising triumph for a Govan- based inspiring radio charity.
Three members of staff from the housing association took part in Sunday’s KiltWalk to raise money for near neighbour – Sunny G Radio.
The fundraising total - thanks to Elderpark’s efforts - now stands at £560.
Fiona Koroma and Kerry Clayton – who both work in Elderpark’s Corporate Services team - took part in the walk along with information communication technology officer Stuart Clift.
Stuart was accompanied on part of the route by partner Magda and ten-month-old son Struan.
Kiltwalkers were invited to don a bit of tartan and complete a walking challenge of their choice opting for either the 22.7 miles from Glasgow Green to Balloch or just over 14 miles from Clydebank to Balloch.
Fiona and Kerry, who did the 22-mile stint, said: “It was wonderful. A long distance but every step of the way we knew we were raising money for Sunny G and that kept us going.”
Gary Dalziel, Elderpark’s chief executive, said: “Fiona, Kerry and Stuart deserve huge praise for their efforts. And the choice of recipient for the charity endeavour couldn’t have been more appropriate. We hope the fundraising will enhance the inspirational work of Sunny G Radio.”
Founded in 1998, Sunny G uses the platform of local radio for community and personal development providing a high-quality media outlet created by local people from a diverse range of backgrounds.
It goes far beyond just playing music and provides access to the airwaves and training and development to individuals and groups
Sunny G is highly regarded by local people with a loyal listening audience and also seeks to promote and support local culture and arts.
Steg Gilfoyle from the station said: “We involve the community in all aspects of our operations at every level. This includes our media platforms, our community development opportunities, our training sessions, and volunteering opportunities.
“As is always the case funding is important to ensure our vital work continues and the boost we are receiving from the Elderpark Kilt Walk is amazing. We can’t thank Fiona and Kerry from the housing association enough.”
There’s still time to make a donation.
