A quantity surveying graduate has been named as the second winner of a prize in memory of a former chairman of Grampian Housing Association (GHA).

Greg Roger (22), who graduated from Robert Gordon University (RGU) with a first class honours degree, was presented with the David Young Memorial Prize at a ceremony at the Scott Sutherland School of Architecture and Built Environment recently.

Sponsored by Grampian Housing Association, the prize is in memory of its former chairman and board member David Young who sadly passed away in 2013.

The prize, along with a £50 book token, will be awarded annually to the student who completes the best surveying integrative studies project at RGU.

Greg, from Ellon, said: “The award capped off a great final year for me achieving As in all my modules and graduating with First Class Honours. I thoroughly enjoyed my time at RGU with aspects of the course, including the placement in third year, setting me up well to deal with the expectations required in full-time employment.”

Greg, who completed his placement with Aberdeen-based McLeod+Aitken, is now working full-time with the company.

Looking back at his time at RGU, the former Ellon Academy student said: “The Integrative Studies module was arguably the most challenging module in my final year, bringing together all aspects of the Quantity Surveying practice taught over the duration of the course.

“The project revolved around the simulation of professional practice through engendering a feasibility study for a residential development in the Aberdeen area. The module required demonstrating a myriad of aspects of the Quantity Surveying profession from investment advice to cost planning to procurement, also engaging with risk management and whole-life costing.”
