Kaukab Stewart, minister for equalities in Scotland, met with Hebridean Housing Partnership (HHP) yesterday as part of a short visit to the islands.

Part of the minister’s visit included Leverburgh and Tarbert, where she met with Gordon Macleod, chair of HHP.

Mr Macleod said: “We had the pleasure of hosting the minister for equalities during a visit to our new development in Leverburgh, where construction has recently started, and to our proposed housing site in Tarbert.

“Both locations have presented challenges but confirm our commitment to providing affordable housing throughout our communities. Harris, in particular, faces significant hurdles, with a thriving tourism industry sitting alongside an aging and reducing population, making it tough for young people to find housing.

“During the visit, I discussed these issues with the minister and demonstrated how HHP is contributing to addressing these challenges.”
