The checks allow the landlord to examine the condition of the wiring within the home against safety standards, as the wiring can deteriorate or become damaged over time, which could result in electric shock, fire, or burns.

Tenants who are due their five-yearly safety checks are being sent appointment letters with a date and time for the electrical safety check.

Lynne Cooper, director of Housing Services, said: “These safety checks are vital for helping to keep our tenants safe. We’re asking tenants to work with us and provide access to allow us to protect them and their homes from fire and give them the peace of mind that their home remains safe.”
