The site of the Forth Park Hospital in Kirkcaldy, which has lain empty since it closed in January 2012, will be given a new lease of life in the form of 41 homes and the conversion of existing buildings into 14 flats.

Under plans by AEL Developments Limited and NHS Fife, the new-build houses will range from one to two-and-a-half storeys and will have two to five bedrooms, while the category B-listed Mansion House on the site will be converted into nine flats with one, two and three bedrooms.

The former Coach House, Stables and Cottage Block will also be turned into five two bedroom flats.

Various attempts to make use of the existing buildings – including the B-listed mansion house building and separate B-listed stable block – have come and gone. The hospital and its grounds were previously marketed with the benefit of conditional planning permission in principle for 69 homes, but that permission has since lapsed.
