Fife Housing Group and Lumphinnans Primary School pupils recognise local community with Big Thank You
Last week, pupils from Lumphinnans Primary School and colleagues from Fife Housing Group hosted a Big Thank You event for members of the local community.
The event was part of an initiative called Rising Community Voices, which sees social housing landlords partner with schools to raise awareness of what it means to be part of a community and empower the pupils to organise and deliver an event which will have a positive impact in their local area.
The purpose is to teach practical skills, encourage collaboration and provide an opportunity to bring people together while giving back to their communities.
Fife Housing Group’s engagement officers, Mellissa Birrell and Suzanne Hume, first met with pupils back in March and have hosted monthly sessions to help plan the event, with the children taking the lead.
Pupils from P4 to P7 wanted to thank people in the Lumphinnans area for the support they give to their school, so set about organising an afternoon tea, inviting, amongst others, community council members, church elders, local care home staff, residents and members of the PTA to come along.
Having spent the morning baking and decorating, the pupils were excited to welcome their guests in the afternoon and really seemed to enjoy serving all of the delicious food they had made and chatting with attendees.
Engagement officer Suzanne Hume, commented: “Our first event as part of the Rising Community Voices project was a huge success.
“The pupils from Lumphinnans Primary School really stepped up to the challenge. They were so enthusiastic and ready to get stuck in. It was a pleasure to work with such a great group of kids and we look forward to taking this project to other schools after summer.”
