The publication on Monday will mark the formal consultation stage of the strategy’s production and the local authority is now seeking final comments on the Consultative Draft LHS 2016-21, and a closing date for comments is set for 26th February 2016.

The full Local Housing Strategy for 2016-21 is being published in April next year.

The published document details the council’s vision and priorities for the future of housing, and all housing related services, across North Lanarkshire.

A range of activities to develop the consultative draft have taken place. These included Citizen’s Panel Focus Groups; stakeholder events specifically for young people, older people and people with a disability; tenants and residents meetings; local area pop up events; work with private landlords and publicity via social media and local press.

Feedback has helped inform six strategic outcomes and action plans. The main issues identified as priorities are:

A final run of consultation events, focussing on the draft are planned. These include Partnership Boards, Corporate Working Groups, presentations at North Lanarkshire Federation of Tenant and Resident Groups open meeting, Private Landlord Forum and our Registered Social Landlord Housing Forum, as well as via social media and local press. Everyone who provided contact details during the co-production phase will receive a copy of the Consultative Draft LHS for comment and feedback.

Councillor Sam Love, convener of housing and social work services, said: “The Draft Local Housing Strategy 2016-21 has been produced over the last 18 months, in consultation with tenants, home owners, housing associations, voluntary organisations and others with an interest in how we build and improve housing in North Lanarkshire.

“Key to its development is the engagement process. We’ve involved key partners at an early stage and empowered service users, staff, partners and stakeholders to develop the document. I’m confident our five year plan will continue to build on the excellent progress we’ve made in providing good quality housing services in North Lanarkshire.”
