Finalists announced for RTPI Planning Awards 2020
A self-build housing development in Glasgow is among the projects to be recognised as the best examples of planning across the UK.
The Bantaskin Street Glasgow - Self Build Pilot, submitted by Glasgow City Council, is in the running for the Excellence in Planning to Deliver Homes - Small Schemes (up to 50 homes) category at the Royal Town Planning Institute (RTPI) Awards for Planning Excellence 2020.
Now in their 45th year, the annual awards celebrate exceptional examples of planning and the contribution planners make to society not just throughout the UK but internationally.
In total, 116 projects, teams and individuals across 14 categories have been selected by the independent judges this year from a record number of entries.
The climax of the ceremony, which takes place in London on 30 April, will be the presentation of the Silver Jubilee Cup, awarded to the project adjudged best overall.
The judging panel in 2020 will once again be chaired by Prof Sadie Morgan, founding director of Stirling Prize-winning architecture practice dRMM.
RTPI President Sue Manns FRTPI said: “Many congratulations to all the finalists at the RTPI Awards for Planning Excellence 2020, representing the very best of our profession from all the RTPI’s regions and nations and from countries around the globe.
“These outstanding projects, teams and individuals show how planning can have a positive effect on our communities and the environment and how planners can use their expertise and enthusiasm to create inclusive, happy and healthy places and spaces for ourselves and for future generations.
“I wish them all the best of the luck at the ceremony on 30 April.”
Headline sponsors of this year’s event are engineering firm AECOM and real estate service provider Savills.
Andrew Jones MRTPI, practice leader design planning + economics at AECOM, said: “The finalists are a diverse mixture of outstanding examples of planning which demonstrate the breadth of the impact the profession has on quality place making and delivery in the built environment.”
David Jackson MRTPI, head of planning at Savills, said: “The finalists reflect the positive impact planning has on our communities and wider society across the UK, Ireland and internationally through exemplary projects, plans and people.”
