First Rent Check day takes place at Castlehill
Castlehill Housing Association has established a new Rent Check Day to support its tenants through the cost-of-living crisis.
The first event was held by housing services staff on Wednesday.
Director of housing services Mhorag Ewen said of the event: “Given the cost-of-living crisis our tenants are working through we felt it was important to give tenants the opportunity to speak to the Housing team to ensure they have the information and advice they need to ensure they can pay their rent and have an affordable repayment arrangement where necessary.”
The dedicated housing team spent the day contacting tenants for a friendly chat about any rent-related concerns. They collaborated with tenants to work out effective solutions for clearing any rent arrears, and setting up affordable rent payment plans for the year ahead.
The team spoke to more than 100 tenants over the day. The team was pleased by how many tenants were pleased to hear from them and discuss the best solution for them.
Linda, one of the tenants called, told Castlehill: “This was a fabulous initiative. So wonderful to hear from Castlehill. A very pleasant and informative chat. Thank you.”
Another tenant Debbie added: “This has been a weight off my mind, speaking to you today.”
Jennifer Soley Castlehill’s housing services manager, said: “‘It has been a fantastic session making positive changes for our tenants. Our goal is to empower tenants to pay their rent in full and in advance, making it a stress-free priority.
“Following the success of the day, the housing team hope to arrange more events like this later in the year. Castlehill recognises that the cost-of-living crisis is affecting everyone and that sometimes finances can get away from people, however, rent is a priority bill, so we need to work together to ensure tenants meet their financial commitments with confidence and peace of mind.”
