First tenants welcomed to affordable apartments in Perth
Four blocks of modern energy-efficient apartments have been completed at Perth’s Goodlyburn Terrace, with the 39 properties boosting the Fair City’s provision of affordable housing.
The £4.3 million development, which is managed by Hillcrest Homes, consists of one and two-bedroom apartments, and is located near Perth Royal Infirmary in the heart of the city.
The homes have a range of modern energy efficiency innovations built in. These include smart meters and high-performance insulation and cladding that exceeds the government standard, all aimed at helping tenants save money on energy bills.
Construction started at the end of 2020, with Perth firm GS Brown Construction Ltd contracted to undertake the project.
Despite sector-wide disruption as a result of Covid-19 lockdowns and labour and material shortages, the project has progressed well, with the homes ready for tenants in summer 2022 as planned.
Fiona Morrison, Hillcrest’s deputy chief executive, said: “Delivered with funding support from the Scottish Government and Perth and Kinross Council, these energy efficient apartments will provide a fantastic place for many households to call home.
“We’re delighted that through our partnership with GS Brown Construction and Perth and Kinross Council, we’ve been able to deal effectively with the nationwide challenges that have affected the sector to successfully deliver these homes.”
Steve Brown, managing director of GS Brown Construction Ltd, said: “We are delighted, in association with Hillcrest Homes, to have delivered much-needed affordable housing for the City of Perth. The last two years has been very challenging for our company and for the house building industry in general and so to have successfully completed a project of this scale is a great achievement by all of our workforce, especially our site-based operatives.”
Councillor Tom McEwan, Perth & Kinross Council’s convener of Housing and Social Wellbeing, added: “Working in close partnership with our local housing association partners to provide additional homes for affordable social rent is a vital part of our strategy to increase the social housing stock here in Perth and Kinross.
“It is fantastic that this new development of high-quality homes has now been completed. I am particularly pleased that they all include energy-efficiency measures that will help to keep tenants’ bills down and reduce their carbon footprint.”
