Flats and shop proposed for Castlemilk gap site
Architectural practice Elder & Cannon has drawn up proposals for a mixed-use development comprising 14 flats and a retail unit for a currently vacant site in Castlemilk.
The land at Holmbyre Terrace, near Carmunnock Road, has been vacant for around 20 years. The majority of the site is owned by the developer, with the surrounding perimeter owned by Thenue Housing Association.
According to a statement submitted with the planning application, the developer hopes to provide the residential element as affordable housing and has approached Thenue for “initial and very outline dialogue” to this end.
On that basis, the homes have been designed on Housing for Varying Needs (HVN) standards. All the flats in the four-storey building would have two bedrooms.
Should discussions with Thenue fall through, the developer said the floor space for each flat would decrease, as would the footprint of the overall development.
