Flats for social rent planned at old Glasgow swimming pool
A block of 39 flats for social rent is being proposed for the site of a former school swimming pool building in the Ibrox area of Glasgow.
AS Homes Scotland wants to develop land which currently contains the former Bellahouston Academy swimming pool annexe which would be demolished.
If approved, the one and two-bedroom flats would be managed by Home Group.
The site, bounded by Clifford Street and Paisley Road West on North Gower Street, will have a low level of car parking provision as the site has high public transport accessibility.
A small playground is proposed plus community garden space possibly with public artwork.
In the planning application, George Buchanan Architects noted: “A recurring design motif across buildings within the locality, the crow step gable is a traditional design feature found in Scottish Baronial architecture.
“The combination of this traditional detail with the proposed contemporary building form and materiality will provide visual interest to the building as viewed from Paisley Road West, whilst avoiding pastiche.”
