Flats planned at Glasgow bowling club site
Noah Developments intends to build 40 new apartments at the site of a recently-closed Glasgow bowling club.
The developer intends to build two residential blocks, each with five doors, at Mount Florida Bowling Club in Carmunnock Road.
The bowling club ceased trading because of falling membership.
Designed by JM Architects, the development would include ten three-bed duplexes, six one-bedroom apartments and 24 two-bed apartments. A total of 40 parking spaces would also be allocated.
A design statement submitted alongside the planning application reads: “Following their acquisition of the site from the club, Noah wish to develop the land into a series of private residential units…and landscaped community gardens, whilst taking cognisance of the sensitive urban setting.
“A key driver for the scheme is the retention of existing site features and maximising the provision of open green space within the site, taking what was once inaccessible private land and offering it to the wider community as both an enhanced visual amenity and a truly accessible space for the public to use, enjoy and benefit from.”
Local campaigners have also submitted a planning application for the site, seeking to convert the site into a community sports and leisure facility, reGlasgow reports.
The design document submitted by Noah Developments has said that the location is “exceptionally well served by a wealth of accessible demand-led community and outdoor/indoor sports facilities” and has a “wealth of existing open space and parkland”.
The document also argued that “a substantial pocket of publicly accessible open space will be provided by our development which…will further increase and enrich the overall provision within the catchment.”
The proposal is yet to be considered by Glasgow planners.
