It is with the deepest regret that Paragon Housing Association reports the death of one of its founding members, vice chairperson Flora Wallace who died last week.

Flora was also serving as treasurer for EVH.

Margaret Torrance, director of Paragon, said: “Flora is a true Paragon legend and I don’t use that term lightly. She inspired us all to work hard for the benefit of our tenants and communities. She was a stalwart support to other committee members and to staff. No matter if things were going well or not, Flora was always there with a steady hand, clear head and wise words.

“I have had the privilege of working alongside Flora for over 30 years when we set up the Steering Group which went on to establish the Association in response to Scottish Homes stock transfer proposals in the late 1990’s. We are still trying to come to terms with her loss. During my last visit to her in hospital a few days before she passed away, I was still getting a grilling about what was happening about this that and the other at work. Interested, engaged and sharp as a tack as always. What a woman.”

Flora believed that tenants should have control over the running of their homes and put her faith in that when she and husband George, founding chairperson, put their considerable energy and effort into setting up the Association. They were a devoted couple but it was fun when they had opposing views at a meeting.

Flora was always interested and engaged. She attended conferences and events, listened to the views of others but was never afraid to say to anyone what she thought of what was going on in the housing sector.

Her family were devoted to her and she loved her little granddaughter Lucy who lit up her life. When the Association started to build new houses near Lucy’s school, she was so proud to tell her that her “YaYa” (as Lucy called her) was part of that. She was loved and respected by all who knew her.

Flora’s funeral is on Monday 27th May 2024 at 10 am at Falkirk Crematorium.
