Flower power comes to Glen Oaks
The power of flowers has been helping to transform homes across three Glasgow communities as Glen Oaks Housing Association celebrated another triumphant year for its keenly-contested Annual Garden and Balcony Competition.
Green- fingered tenants in three areas where Glen Oaks has its homes – Arden, Darnley and Pollok – threw themselves into the contest this year creating stunning displays which drew many admiring glances.
Glen Oaks annual competition was won this year by tenants Linda and John Rundell who captured the magnificent Glen Oaks shield.
Because Glen Oaks housing stock includes many flats, particularly in Arden, the competition ensures balconies are included. No-one actually submits their garden or balcony for judging – it is discreetly undertaken by a team of judges touring the community.
Alasdair McKee, chief executive of Glen Oaks, said: “This year’s competition was another stunning success. Local gardens and balconies – despite the poor summer – really did transform the community. We applaud everyone who took part and congratulate those who actually won.”
The overall winner was considered the most spectacular anywhere across the three areas.
A prize-giving was held at the Association’s offices in Arden where the following sponsors of the competition were thanked: Cruden Buildings and Renewals, MCB Limited, GasSure, Caledonian Maintenance Services and City Building.
