Formerly a clerk of works with the housing association he took on the role of committee member from 2005 to 2011 when he retired.

In his younger days, Bob followed his father into the Kings Own Scottish Borderers (KSOB) for his three years of national service. After his national service, he completed a joinery apprenticeship with Finlayson’s which was followed by 30 years in the fire service. He was a past president of the Galashiels Braw Lads Gathering between 2003 and 2005 and was made a life member when his term of office ended.

A spokesperson at Eildon said: “He will be very sadly missed, and our thoughts and best wishes go to his friends and family.”
