Galston residents show off new council homes
East Ayrshire Council representatives were given a warm welcome when they visited new council homes at Jamieson Court in Galston.
Sonnette Johnstone was delighted to show off her new home which is one of ten new builds within the development.
The site has five three bedroom homes and five two bedroom homes; one is suitable for an older ambulant disabled person and another is specially designed for a wheelchair user, which has an integral car port.
Councillor Douglas Reid, leader of the council and Councillor Eòghann MacColl, cabinet member for housing and communities were joined at Jamieson Court by local members Councillors George Mair and Bobby McDill.
Councillor Reid said: “As part of the council’s ambitious house building programme 197 new homes are being built across East Ayrshire. The homes are specially designed to change the lives of local people who have been in housing that was previously unsuitable for their needs and to regenerate communities by building on sites that could have lain derelict for some time.
“The Jamieson Court development is particularly attractive and I was delighted to view the homes now they are occupied.”
Sonnette Johnstone, who was presented with flowers by Councillor Reid, said: “My husband and I are very grateful for our beautiful new home; it really is the best ever. Living here will change our lives completely and for the better. I can’t thank the council enough.”
The houses which are being built by CBC, and supported by funding from the Scottish Government, will be ready early in the summer of 2015.
