Glasgow approves residential plan at Beith Street
Two new residential buildings containing 48 new apartments in Partick have received approval from Glasgow City Council.
Development company Nixon Blue said the apartments at Beith Street are aimed at attracting professionals, first-time buyers and downsizers in the marketplace.
Located in the west of the city, the two buildings will see 48 two-bedroom apartments - each with access to private outdoor terrace space.
Planning permission in principle was already granted in May 2021 and following this, Nixon Blue has worked with the council to adjust and refine comments to address planning and local policies in the area.
As part of the greater Glasgow Harbour and regeneration masterplan, the new apartments will be two separate accommodation buildings, each six storeys in height. The buildings which will be similar in scale to the existing tenement flats and each apartment will have dual aspect.
Director of Nixon Blue, Richard McFadzean, said: “We have rigorously developed the design proposals which were approved in principle by Glasgow City Council. The apartments will be low energy and high-quality accommodation which support, connect and regenerate this Partick site. By developing this land, we are looking to support the regeneration of the riverside and look forward to bringing this to the marketplace.”
Nixon Blue has successfully completed a number of developments including new apartments at Riverside Walk in Paisley, The Picture House in Dennistoun, and The Millhouse in Bridge Street, Paisley with the last few remaining on sale.
This new development is a car-free scheme which aims to fit with Glasgow’s ambition to be a car-free zone to actively encourage putting people first and to reduce carbon emissions. Included are plans to re-route and upgrade the existing cycle path along the Clydeside Expressway to retain and improve access for cyclists.
Previously, this site housed three tenement buildings (pre-1973) before they were demolished to make way for the Clydeside Expressway. The site was purchased by the developers in May 2022 with the intention of re-establishing residential apartments to meet local demand in this popular area and to support the regeneration of the Clydeside, which is currently being transformed by the construction of the new Govan/Partick pedestrian/cycle ridge.
