Glasgow clothing shop offers ‘new for old’ jacket scheme with Homeless Project Scotland
A Glasgow-based fashion brand has teamed up with Homeless Project Scotland to launch a new scheme to help support people experiencing homelessness this winter.
Finnieston Clothing is running a ‘Jacket for Jacket’ campaign that encourages customers to bring in their old jackets when purchasing a new one, and in return their old jacket will be donated to the charity.
Customers taking part in the initiative will receive 20% off all apparel in the brand’s Byres Road and Shawlands Stores until the end of January.
Homeless Project Scotland, a charity run entirely by volunteers focused on providing essential items and support for the homeless community, will ensure the donated jackets reach those who need them most.
Finnieston Clothing founder Ross Geddess said he was prompted to take action as temperatures continue to plummet across the country.
He told Glasgow Live: “Winter is an especially difficult time for those without stable housing. Walking around the streets near our shops on Pollokshaws Road and Byres Road, it’s clear to see that homelessness is a growing issue that we as a community need to do something about. Anyone can fall on hard times, and we urgently need to come together to help. This is just one small step.
“We encourage people to shop sustainably and to think about the lifecycle of clothing. The ‘Jacket for Jacket’ campaign is one small way for our customers to make a difference and extend the usefulness of a product.”
Colin McInnes, CEO of Homeless Project Scotland, added: “It’s extremely disheartening in this day and age that businesses are having to step in to help people who should be supported by our government at both a local and national level.
“We thank Ross and the team for helping us raise awareness of the dire situation that many people are currently facing. I would like to thank members of the public for their support, and the businesses like Finnieston who continue to try to step in and help to fill the gap left by the powers that be.”
