Glasgow councillors consider £1bn project for 10,000 new homes

Glasgow councillors will consider a plan to spend more than £1 billion on 10,000 new affordable homes on Thursday, the Evening Times reports.
Under the five-year scheme, the council would contribute £600 million and a similar amount would come from private investors.
Cllr Kenny McLean, convener for neighbourhoods, housing and public realm, said: “The council is committed to making sure people in Glasgow have access to affordable housing.“A five year plan such as this allows the council and our housing partners in the public and private sectors to plan ahead.”
A report to councillors says the new housing “will contribute to the continuing regeneration of Glasgow’s neighbourhoods”.
It adds: “It will facilitate significant investment in the construction industry with additional associated benefits in the form of jobs and training opportunities and benefits to small and medium enterprises.”
The plan will be submitted to the Scottish Government for approval if it is backed by councillors.
