Glasgow disposes of former school site Rosehill Housing Co-operative
Rosehill Housing Co-operative is to build 44 new homes in Pollok after Glasgow City Council approved the disposal of the site of the former Gowanbank Primary School.
The co-operative will build a mixture of flats and houses for social rent on the 2.14 hectares site which is close to Silverburn shopping centre and bus and train stations.
The school buildings were closed and demolished in 2018, and the site is bound to the north by Lunderston Drive, to the south by Glentyan Drive, to the east by Overtown Avenue and to the west by Glentyan Place.
Rosehill Housing Co-operative, the main registered social landlord in the Pollok area, will pay £570,000 for the cleared and vacant site.
The off-market disposal follows the council’s strategic housing objectives policy.
Councillor Ruairi Kelly, convener for Neighbourhoods Services and Assets at Glasgow City Council, said: “This disposal benefits the city in a number of ways - not only raising public funds in a challenging financial climate, but allowing the building of much-needed new flats and houses for social rent that will help to deliver our ambitious affordable housing targets.”
