Glasgow to dispose of site of former school and schoolhouse in Crookston
Bellway Homes is to build up to 57 homes on the site of the former Howford Primary School and Schoolhouse in Glasgow after the council agreed to dispose of the land.
The disposal of the 3.33 hectares site at 487 Crookston Road will raise £3 million for Glasgow City Council.
Bellway Homes’ bid was considered the best value for the council of 14 bids for the site, after it was placed on the market in June 2024.
The school and schoolhouse were declared surplus to the council’s operational requirements in March 2019 and October 2019 respectively, and later, both buildings were subject to emergency demolition following fires, leaving a cleared site.
Councillor Ruairi Kelly, convener for Housing, Development and Land Use at Glasgow City Council, said: “The disposal of this site in Crookston is good news for the area and the city: a vacant site will now be given a new and productive use with new and much-needed homes being built there, and a substantial capital receipt for the council will be reinvested into the delivery of public services in Glasgow.”
