ng homes staff complete Glasgow University’s Activate programme
ng homes staff were among the latest cohort of graduates from Glasgow University’s Activate programme, a foundation course centred on community development in partnership with local community organisations.
Along with family and friends, students and tutors gathered at the Humanity Lecture Theatre to mark the completion of the successful course. Helen Martin, Activate programme co-ordinator, opened the celebration congratulating the graduates on their success.
In addition to ng homes staff, many of the students were staff from local organisations, such as Glasgow Girls Club, Three60 Springburn Mens Shed, Rape Crisis Centre, Stronger Enterprises Together, Glasgow Baby Foodbank, G20 Youth Project and North Glasgow Healthy Living Community.
Activate, a foundation level course, is designed to enhance community capacity and strengthen local networks. It focuses on cultivating an understanding of different strategies to instigate community change, encouraging participants to scrutinise and challenge their views and those of others regarding their community work.
This valuable approach has already produced successful outcomes, attracting family members of current students to enrol for the next course.
Activate tutor, Gary Harkins, said: “I was so proud to work with this group of people, they were so inspiring that I loved a Tuesday night and looked forward to the classes every week.
“Well done to all the students, who are now equipped to contribute to the development of the local community!”
