Glasgow West Housing Association names Community Champion
Glasgow West Housing Association has named Isobel Campbell as a Community Champion in association with McDonalds Maryhill.
Ms Campbell was the community driving force behind the back square project in Anderston involving donations towards planters, involving community groups to attract grant in culmination of what she describes as seeing dream come true, with a back court area more attractive to all residents that overlook the area.
The Association had already identified the area as problematic so were more than happy to help Ms Campbell try to improve the “Big Square” in the back court of Breadalbane Street.
Not only did they approve the request to install planters and seating, but they made sure that a gate was installed to secure the lane towards the backcourt area. Apprentices from the GWHA Estates power washed the area and gave it a much needed coat of paint to improve the appearance of the area.
Ms Campbell’s hard work and determination has resulted in recovery of a lost amenity space which had been previously used for antisocial gathering and refuse dumping. She hopes that similar can be done for other back court areas.
The Association said her ongoing drive and commitment to the Anderston community is “impressive”, particularly her endeavours in transforming the “big square” into an attractive back court and the recovery of a lost amenity space. The improvements were made with minimal cost and through partnership working, causing the large backcourt area to be transformed.
