Nobody wants homelessness to continue. So why are we not winning the fight to end it?

Most agree that allies must join forces in a new way; stronger to tackle the big issues and more flexible to respond to every case of homelessness with urgency and care.

This is at the heart of a new 10-year alliance to end homelessness in Glasgow. Strategy, action - and resources - will soon be coproduced by a highly committed and cross-sector alliance. Importantly, people who know first-hand about homelessness will directly advise and guide the alliance partners.

This will be an ambitious pact to stop managing homelessness and start ending it. It will also be transforming; housing ends homelessness and so the alliance will significantly increase rapid rehousing approaches like Housing First.

There is already a wide range of interest in these developments. So whether your focus is Glasgow or elsewhere, come along to this important event to help frame:

  • Whether Scotland’s current action to prevent people from becoming homeless is targeted enough;
  • Whether current action to respond to people who become homeless is targeted and urgent enough;
  • What ‘Alliancing’ is – and how it might help;
  • Whose problem homelessness is – and do we have everyone we need on board?
  • GHN’s annual conference is always a lively – and pivotal – event. With brilliant speakers and a combination of participative workshops, observed sofa sessions and roundtable discussions – this year’s event will be unmissable for anyone with an active interest in preventing or tackling homelessness.
