Glen Oaks tenants enjoy goConnect Christmas events
In December, Glen Oaks’ successful goConnect project and Weekeday WOW factor worked in partnership to provide some Christmas festivities to tenants.
They enjoyed a Christmas themed Boogie Brunch and Blether event, designed to encourage social interaction and physical mobility through fun activities and light exercise. Residents enjoyed party games, music from Weekday WOW factor’s resident DJ and even rubbed shoulders with a VIP.
Boogie, Brunch and Blether is a free monthly event which is funded in conjunction with Weekday Wow Factor and The Glasgow Communities Mental Health and Wellbeing Fund.
Tenant Mima Buckley said: “We had a fantastic day with great food, great company, dancing, Santa, presents and plenty of laughs - Fun all round. Personally, I absolutely loved it all and so thankful to all who organised it.”
Furthermore, goConnect facilitated a Comedy Bingo session with popular Glasgow Comic Sir James with hilarious spot prizes including a knee support bandage, an energy drink, fray bentos pies and a back scratcher.
This event proved popular with multiple age groups, and residents loved the witty banter of their bingo caller. They even competed in a dance/sing off with inflatable instruments and bubble machines.
Participant Cathie Stewart added: “The event was really good, and one I would like to see repeated in the future. Laughter is the best medicine, and there was plenty to be had at the Comedy Bingo.”
Established in 2017, goConnect is a in house tenancy sustainment project, which aims to tackle social exclusion, and help alleviate anxiety and stress through inclusive activities and learning opportunities, as well as providing emotional, digital, and financial support for all Glen Oaks residents.
