Gok Wan joins ‘Slippers for Shelter’ campaign
Celebrity Gok Wan has called on members of the public to ‘get yer baffies oot’ in a bid to raise money for Shelter Scotland to help homeless and badly housed children and their families.
According to the charity, 100,000 children across Britain – almost 5,000 of them in Scotland – will go to bed this Christmas Eve without a place to call home.
Launching Friday 4th December as ‘baffie day’, Gok Wan and the charity hope to raise awareness and funds to help those facing the human tragedy of homelessness.
Anyone can support ‘Slippers for Shelter’ (which is part of Shelter Scotland’s emergency Christmas appeal) in three simple steps:
Whether fluffy, frilly or festive, wearing your baffies to work will help Shelter Scotland support the thousands of families facing homelessness across Scotland.
Gok Wan said: “Just a little bit can go a long way towards helping the thousands of children in Britain who will be waking up homeless this Christmas. That’s why I’m putting my best foot forward and taking a slipper selfie, to support Slippers for Shelter.
“It’s easy – simply wear your finest, furriest slippers into work, school or even down to the shops, donate £3 to Shelter, and share your very own slipper selfie on social media with the hashtag #baffiesforshelter
“Not only will your feet be comfy and cosy all day, you’ll be helping a great cause too.”
Alison Watson, deputy director of Shelter Scotland, said: “Not a single child should be homeless, especially at Christmas, so the fact that in 21st Century Scotland nearly 5,000 children will wake up without a home on Christmas Day just goes to show the devastating depths our housing crisis has reached.
“We urge the public to get behind this campaign, slip their feet into a comfy pair of baffies and in turn take a step towards helping children and their families towards securing a safe and secure home. Your donation could be the difference between a family losing their home and keeping it. We want to be there for every family that needs us.
“Simply wear your baffies on Friday 4th December and help us make sure no call for help goes unanswered this Christmas.”
