Good Neighbour award for Castle Rock Edinvar resident
A Midlothian resident has been recognised at a national awards ceremony for her exceptional sense of community and kindness towards her neighbours.
Castle Rock Edinvar customer Maureen Crawford was nominated for a Good Neighbour Award as her thoughtfulness towards encouraging a new neighbour to join her sheltered housing development’s social committee has resulted in them becoming firm friends.
As a valued member of Salisbury View, Maureen’s aim has been to bring enjoyment to her fellow neighbours through organising day trips and keeping the complex’s garden beautiful. When a new resident moved to Salisbury View, Dalkeith, Maureen made sure they integrated into the community immediately by inviting the neighbour to join in with all the activities. Together they have organised outings to local fayres and special lunches for residents, all while developing a strong friendship.
Maureen received her award at the annual award event hosted by property and leisure management, development and regeneration company, Places for People. The Good Neighbour Awards celebrate the commitment and positive impact that residents have on their local communities and neighbours’ lives.
The award recognises Maureen’s friendship and care towards her neighbours. She was among 40 Places for People customers to receive a Good Neighbour Award at a special lunch held in York.
Maureen said: “It’s really nice to be appreciated and recognised, but it was such a surprise to be nominated. It feels really strange to receive an award for something I enjoy so much! I’ve managed to do all of this because of my neighbours. Salisbury View is one large community and everyone supports each other to make the development as best as it can be.
“It’s lovely that Places for People celebrates its good neighbours. I’d recommend everyone to get involved in their local community as it’s an incredibly rewarding experience.”
David Cowans, group chief executive of Places for People, who presented the winners with their awards, said: “We look forward to the Good Neighbour Awards each year. It’s a fantastic opportunity to celebrate the inspiring acts and positive behaviour of individuals in our neighbourhoods, which may otherwise go unnoticed.
“They may not know it, but these people are making real differences to their communities and neighbours’ lives. They are our everyday heroes and are truly deserving of the recognition.”
