Govanhill Housing Association steps in to help families struggling at Christmas

The team at Govanhill Housing Association has been actively working to ease the challenges faced by tenants due to the rising cost of living.

Located in an area with the highest rate of child poverty in the United Kingdom, many families in Govanhill struggle to provide gifts for their children at Christmas.

In response to this, the Association partnered with its contractors and Project Present Govanhill to distribute gifts to over 400 children from families in need. This initiative is designed to bring joy to children whose families are experiencing financial hardship.

In addition to providing gifts, the Association has also distributed £5000 through the Cash for Kids project, further supporting families in need.

Alongside this, the Association partnered with the Govanhill Community Garden to host a Santa event, where visiting reindeer brought a bit of magic to Christmas.

Audrey Flannagan, tenant, and vice chair of Govanhill Housing Association, said: “Christmas can be a tough time for families in our area, which is why it is so important to us that we take whatever steps we can to alleviate the pressure of poverty. We were pleased to support these initiatives as part of our aim to be more than a landlord and provide more than just housing.”
