Gowrie Care pedalling employment success in Dundee
An employment adviser has gone the extra mile to ensure the breaks were not put on a Dundee man’s efforts to get back into work this week.
Sean Patrick Lynch, an employment adviser for Gowrie Care, pulled out all stops to ensure Michael Drummond did not miss out on a job at a local factory due to a lack of transport and limited funds.
Sean said: “We were delighted when Michael was offered the job but we were more than a little concerned he wouldn’t be able to take it on because of travel issues posed by the 6am starts.
“With no public transport running so early and Michael facing a 13 week wait for his Universal Credit payment, it was looking unlikely he would be able to accept this life changing opportunity.
“Thankfully, with the help of the team at Halfords Kingsway West, we were able to secure a discounted bike for Michael – who will be able to start pedalling up the career pathway starting Monday.”
Part of the Hillcrest Group, Gowrie Care’s employability team operates out of The Learning Place in the Hilltown and works with unemployed people to source job opportunities and to gain the skills required to get back into work.
