The event – which featured games, food and a petting zoo – was opened by the Lord Provost, Bob Duncan, and attended by over 100 people including those supported by Gowrie Care’s services, care staff, and family and friends.

Lynda Imrie, assistant manager at Gowrie Care’s David Street service, said: “It was wonderful to be part of such a successful feel good day, we hold events like this every summer and this was our biggest one yet.

“The people we support have a range of learning and physical disabilities which means it isn’t always easy for them to interact or engage in public events – our Highland games broke down these barriers and everyone had a fabulous time.

“There was a huge amount of community spirit on display at the event and not just from the local community as there were a number of national companies involved in bringing it all together.”

A fantastic example of people and organisations pulling together to deliver something worthwhile, Gowrie’s Highland games was funded by The Big Lunch and a number of other sponsors – including Barr, Tunnocks and Co-op along with many other local businesses.

The Big Lunch aims to get as many people in the UK as possible to have lunch with their neighbours for a few hours of community, friendship and fun.

Since it launched in 2009, thousands of Big Lunches have taken place in all kinds of communities - from street parties to picnics, with millions of people taking part each year.
