Green light for 70 homes for social rent in Jedburgh
Plans for 70 new homes on the site of the former Howdenburn Primary School in Jedburgh have been unanimously approved.
Cruden Homes lodged a planning application with Scottish Borders Council for the Lothian Road site, which was left vacant since the school’s closure in 2020 and subsequent demolition.
Designed by Aitken Turnbull Architects, the homes are being developed for the Scottish Borders Housing Association (SBHA), which has identified a substantial demand for housing in Jedburgh, with over 300 applicants expressing a preference for residing in the area.
The 5.57-acre development will feature two-, three-, and four-bedroom homes with essential infrastructure including roads, footpaths, a sustainable urban drainage system (SUDS), and ample open space, ensuring a holistic approach to community development.
This initiative is part of a broader effort by Cruden Homes to increase affordable housing in the region, with similar projects underway in Newtown St Boswells, Galashiels, and Earlston.
Cruden Homes managing director, Fraser Lynes, said: “We are thrilled to obtain planning approval for this landmark housing development for Scottish Borders Housing Association in Jedburgh, at a time when the need for affordable homes is more acute than ever.
“This exciting new development is a great example of Cruden’s strategic commitment to delivering land-led affordable housing projects for partner organisations, and we are delighted to continue our legacy of delivering quality new homes to the Scottish Borders region.”
