Green light for new Edinburgh student accommodation
Plans to demolish a warehouse in Edinburgh to make way for a student accommodation development for 155 students have been granted planning permission.
Danehurst Developments has been given the green light to progress its proposals for four to six-storey student accommodation on the site of 22, 24-36 Dunedin Street.
The site is currently occupied by a distribution centre comprising a warehouse and an adjacent yard. It is not located within a conservation area however the Inverleith Conservation Area is located further to the west, with the New Town Conservation Area to the south.
The wider surrounding area has a mix of light industrial, office, student accommodation and residential buildings with a range of amenities close by including shops, cafes and restaurants.
“As the historic research demonstrates, the area around the site is in the process of evolving from a predominantly industrial area to a more residential neighbourhood,” the developer said in a statement.
The area was originally known for its tannery, skinnery and iron works and Powderhall Stadium.
