Halliday Foundation to open ‘Communitèa’ Cafe
A new community cafe will open next week inside Barrowfield Community Centre in Glasgow which is run by the Willowcare Trust, part of West of Scotland Housing Association.
The Halliday Foundation has secured a lease within Barrowfield Community Centre for its ‘Communitèa’ Cafe. It will have a zero-waste theme where the products are recyclable and there will be a unique part of the menu that is made from supermarket waste that is safe to be eaten.
Communitèa will have a full menu with an array of affordable paying options. There will also be an option to ‘Pay It Forward’ by paying double for your item and allowing someone else in the community, who is perhaps finding times difficult, to eat out.
Communiteà will also have a very specific focus as all of its volunteers will be recruited from mental health, addiction, work programmes and many other agencies as it offers a core work experience programme along with education and employment to help people find a career in the hospitality industry.
The cafe will also have a voucher system that partner organisations can hand over to those who are homeless and they can attend the cafe for a free lunch, hot drink and support.
Communitèa will be opening on January 17, with a grand opening day taking place on January 24.
