Hanover residents mark milestone anniversary
Residents at a sheltered and owner occupied housing complex in Edinburgh were treated to a special lunch to celebrate a major anniversary in the history of the site.
To celebrate 30 years since the site at Carlyle Court was opened in 1986, resident and chair of the residents committee, 82 year old Mrs Sylvia Ferguson who has lived in the development for over 16 years, organised a special buffet lunch of sandwiches and other culinary delights to mark the milestone, with help from staff, residents and a donation from Hanover to make the party a success.
97-year-old Mr Richard Cassidy, one of the original residents who has lived in the development for almost 30 years, having moved in in January 1987, had the honours of cutting the personalised cake and said he was “delighted” by the effort both residents and staff had made.
Mr Cassidy went on to say “I can’t quite believe that I have lived at Carlyle Court since it opened, almost 30 years! It is lovely that so many of the residents came together today to celebrate this occasion, there is a great sense of community here and I hope that there will be many more anniversaries to mark.”
Elizabeth Madden, one of Carlyle Court’s sheltered housing managers, said: “What a brilliant day. Over 60 residents came along to celebrate Carlyle Court’s milestone birthday and I can’t thank Sylvia, the residents and the staff enough for making today such a success, as well as Hanover for their kind donation towards the celebration.”
The lunch took place on November 30 at Carlyle Court.
