Hawthorn Housing Co-operative celebrates 30th anniversary on Scottish Housing Day
Members of Hawthorn Housing Co-operative in Possilpark celebrated their 30th anniversary with a community cinema experience on Scottish Housing Day last week.
Patrons to the cinema enjoyed popcorn and images of the area from over the last 60 years. These images showed the transformation that the community has achieved through its Co-operative. The event included a piece from Professor Willy Maley from the University of Glasgow about his childhood in this community and his journey since then.
The event was part funded from the Community Benefit Fund that Hawthorn Housing Co-operative has obtained as founder members of the Scottish Procurement Alliance (SPA). The Community Benefit Fund is managed and delivered by Lintel Trust on behalf of SPA.
The highlight was the presentation by Mattie Mcgeoch to Mrs Mary McCreadie. Mary is the oldest tenant of the Co-operative and mother of 11 children, many of whom still live in the Co-op’s houses.
Mattie said: “Mary has been with the Co-op since the beginning and is an integral part of this community. It was really nice to present her with a bouquet to mark our 30th birthday.”
