Hebridean Housing Partnership to deliver new homes for Galson
Construction of four new homes at Tom Na Ba, Galson is underway and should be ready for occupation by September 2018, Hebridean Housing Partnership (HHP) has said.
The homes are being built by Alex Murray Construction and are being built beside HHP’s current houses at Tom Na Ba. The cost of the development is £586k of which £381k is being funded by a Scottish Government grant.
John Maciver, HHP’s director of operations, said: “This development demonstrates our ongoing commitment to delivering high quality new housing right across our islands.”
Councillor Kenny John MacLeod, the chair of the Comhairle’s communities and housing committee, and one of the local Members for the An Taobh Siar Agus Nis Ward, said: “I am very pleased to see a further HHP development underway in a rural area. The four new homes will complement the existing Tom Na Ba houses and will have a beneficial impact on the area, not just in terms of addressing housing need, but also in terms of strengthening rural communities.”
Housing minister Kevin Stewart added: “I am pleased to see these high quality, affordable new homes being built in the Western Isles. This development highlights the importance of partnership working to deliver housing across our Islands – ensuring we deliver the right homes, in the right places, for both individuals and communities.
“Scotland’s islands make a huge contribution to Scottish life but we know people living there can face challenges when it comes to accessing the home they want. That is why we have introduced dedicated support through our £5 million Islands Housing Fund, which will increase the supply of good quality affordable housing and help to attract and retain people in our islands.
“We are committed to delivering to at least 50,000 affordable homes across Scotland over the course of this Parliament. By providing higher than average grant rates to this development, along with our dedicated support for Islands housing, we are demonstrating our commitment to delivering affordable housing in locations where it is most needed.”
