Gàradh a’ Bhagh a’ Tuath received their donation from assets & contracts manager, Angus MacNeil, (pictured with Gàradh a’ Bhagh a’ Tuath service users) at the Barra Tenant Event on 4 November 2022.

Gàradh a’ Bhàgh a’ Tuath is a horticultural-based project offering a range of facilities to the community of Barra and neighbouring islands. They grow and sell local produce whilst helping people with special needs and reducing the carbon footprint of the local area. The donation will go towards having off-grid solar panels installed to help offset energy costs and contribute towards Barra becoming a carbon neutral island.

Representatives of four of the charities visited the HHP office on Friday to receive their cheques and provided a bit of background on their organisation and explained how the monies would be used.

Marie Curie is the UK’s leading end of life charity and provide frontline nursing and hospice care, a wealth of information and support on all aspects of dying, death and bereavement and, locally, provide end of life care at home.

Bethesda Hospice provides hospice beds for specialist palliative care and 21 care home beds. It is required to raise over £370,000 per year to keep the hospice open and offers a much needed and caring service to those who are terminally ill and those who require nursing care.

Action for Children protect and support children and young people, providing practical and emotional care and support ensuring their voices are heard, and campaign to bring lasting improvements to their lives.

Western Isles Community Care Forum is as a forum for Voluntary Care organisations which represent the interests of carers and users of services throughout the Western Isles. They have several initiatives to support carers including Respitality, where local businesses donate goods and services to carers, regular carer forums and a musical memories group.
