Help to Adapt scheme pilot launches

The Scottish Government’s Help to Adapt scheme has been launched in twelve pilot local authority areas, with managing agent Link Group Ltd helping older people to adapt their home.

The Help to Adapt initiative will see homeowners aged 60 or over encouraged to adapt their homes to enable their long-term independence and quality of life. The scheme helps owners pay for the adaptations by using the equity in their own home, and the work is organised for them.

The two-year pilot will see around 600 loans of up to £30,000 made to older home-owners in Scotland, and the pilot could be expanded to other local authority areas if it is successful.

The full list of local authority areas where the scheme will be trialled is as follows:

  • Argyll and Bute Council
  • City of Edinburgh Council
  • East Dunbartonshire Council
  • East Lothian Council
  • East Renfrewshire Council
  • Falkirk Council
  • Glasgow City Council
  • North Lanarkshire Council
  • Renfrewshire Council
  • Scottish Borders Council
  • Stirling Council
  • West Lothian Council
  • Link Group Ltd, which is the parent company of eight social enterprises, won a contract from the Scottish Government earlier this year to deliver the pilot scheme.
