Hillcrest has appointed John Alexander as its new chief executive, starting in early Summer 2025.

Currently the head of local authorities within SSEN Transmission, John Alexander is the former leader of Dundee City Council, board member of NHS Tayside and a member of the National Advisory Council. He brings a wealth of experience across a diverse range of sectors at a local and national level.

Hillcrest said John has a proven track record of working to build thriving, inclusive communities and is passionate about what can be achieved. His deep understanding of the sector, combined with a strong commitment to social impact, aligns closely with Hillcrest’s mission to help people live better lives, the organisation added.

The decision follows a rigorous recruitment process, with the selection panel unanimous in the view that John not only brings exceptional expertise, but also shares the same vision and values that underpin everything Hillcrest does.

“We are thrilled to welcome John to lead Hillcrest into the future,” said Dave Boyle, Hillcrest’s chairperson. “From the outset, it was clear that he understands the aim of our work—putting people first, investing in our communities, and striving for positive change. We are confident that John will be an excellent chief executive.”

John said: “I am delighted to be joining Hillcrest as the new chief executive. The organisation has a remarkable reputation for providing high-quality housing and a range of vitally important services within our communities, and I am deeply committed to supporting that work.”

John Alexander is succeeding Angela Linton, who is stepping down after over 30 years of dedicated service.
