Hillcrest teams up with Togs to give presents to children in poverty
Hillcrest has teamed up with charity Togs for Tots to Teens to donate a sleigh-load of gifts to children suffering poverty in Dundee.
Staff came together to quickly build up a haul of toys, sweets and games to be packaged into shoe boxes and gift bags, which were then handed over to Togs.
Togs engage with families who are struggling most and believe that every child should have the opportunity to develop positively. As part of the Christmas initiative, the gifts they receive from the public are distributed to those who are most in need within the city, in order to make Christmas a little more special for those who may have otherwise missed out.
Just some of the items donated by kind-hearted Hillcrest staff included dolls and teddies, toy cars, yo-yos, skipping ropes, puzzles, stationary, items of clothing, toiletries and sweets.
Hillcrest fundraising officer, Clare McNally, who co-ordinated the staff donations, said: “For most, Christmas is a time of happiness and giving, but for some children in Dundee it can be an especially miserable time where they can feel like they’re missing out.
“By generating a large amount of gift items and organising these into shoe boxes and gift bags, we hope to bring Christmas to those who have the least and are struggling most.
“The response from the staff at Hillcrest has been overwhelming. As soon as the call went out, the pile of gifts didn’t stop growing, and it’s a testament to how much of a good cause Togs is.”
