Hillhead secures further financial help for tenants
The welfare rights team at Hillhead Housing Association has secured further funding from the National Lottery and from Employers in Voluntary Housing (EVH) to support the local community.
Funding of £32,500 has now been received and will shortly be distributed in line with the conditions of the grant.
Hillhead said the EVH award of £2,500 will enable it to assist those tenants who fall through gaps in the current social security network and who perhaps are not eligible for statutory hardship funding support from DWP and the local authority.
The two Lottery awards include £20,000 from the Community Anchor Fund and £10,000 from the Awards for All fund. Together this fund will enable Hillhead to continue to offer direct financial support in the form of energy vouchers, shopping vouchers etc to meet the emergency, immediate and short-term needs of its tenants.
In 2022, Hillhead was successful in obtaining £38,204 in support from a variety of funders which allowed it to support over 210 families and individuals as well as give financial support to a number of other local organisations. The funding has meant that it has been able to provide very practical help such as winter duvets, and draught excluders on top of emergency food and fuel vouchers.
Positive feedback from recipients of this help includes: “It was really good to have this help in these hard times, Hillhead housing was there to help when needed.”
“I am extremely grateful for the warmer duvet and the vouchers. The vouchers meant I had more money towards stocking my cupboards for winter because I had extra electricity in the meter and money towards some warmer clothing.”
And “I really appreciate the help HHA has given to my family, it has helped relieve some pressure. Thank you again!”
