Homes for Good Investments named as finalist in Scottish Home Awards
Homes for Good Investments have been named as a finalist in the 2021 Scottish Home Awards, in the Community Contribution Category.
One of three finalists in the category, the organisation was nominated due to a renovation project it undertook, which allowed it to breathe new life into three other properties.
During 2020 Homes for Good Investments transformed a run-down empty Dennistoun tenement into a beautiful first time buyer’s home.
The proceeds of purchase were used strategically to further the core aims of Homes for Good, creating homes, improving buildings and regenerating communities. As a result of this development for sale, one property turned into three.
A further first-time home created, the home of a very vulnerable, elderly person secured and the purchase of a flat triggering majority ownership and kickstarting the regeneration of a prominent building in North Glasgow.
Dr Susan Aktemel, executive director of Homes for Good, said: “We are absolutely thrilled to be finalists in the Community Contribution category - as a social business we are always looking to balance maximising social impact with being profitable.
“With this project we were able to demonstrate the wide ranging benefits property development can bring to individual people’s lives and their homes, protecting the condition of older buildings, which in turn then contributes to the regeneration of the local community. Being shortlisted along with Barratt and MacTaggart is a real honour, and we look forward to celebrating with them in September.”
