The development would be the latest in the council’s social house building programme, which will instigate the creation of 600 new homes within the next five years.

Thanks to funding from the Scottish Government, Falkirk Council is also buying back former council homes.

The Polmont Development will also ensure the footpath linking main Street and Wilson avenue will be extended and improved.

A new turning head for vehicles will also be created at the western end of Wilson Avenue, The Scotsman reports.

The new flats consisting of 12 one-bedroom and nine two-bedrooms, will be in a three-story block, however, the sloping ground level will mean the building will look like a two-storey block from Main Street.

The bungalows will be in two terraced blocks; three with one-bedroom bungalows and four with two bedrooms. A total of 31 parking spaces will also be included.

Falkirk Council intends to have the Polmont homes completed by March 2022 and the properties will also help address a shortage of wheelchair-accessible housing in the area.
