Housebuilder hands 14 sets of keys to Melville Housing Association
CALA Homes (East) has constructed 14 new high quality affordable homes which have been seamlessly incorporated into a popular Midlothian housing development.
The housebuilder has worked closely with Melville Housing Association to deliver the homes in Bonnyrigg, adjacent to Broomieknowe Golf Club.
Now the site has reached a key milestone with the handover of keys to the locally-based affordable homes provider with the first occupants due to move in over the coming days.
The affordable homes comprise six terraced units and eight cottage flats, with private gardens, openspace and car parking.
The handover marks the next step at a site which has demonstrated a long-term commitment by the developer, which has already seen Broomieknowe Golf Club receive a crucial injection of funds, with the money reinvested into the club as part of a wider strategy to improve the course and clubhouse.
Alasdair Hughes, land buyer at CALA Homes (East), said: “It’s been a lengthy but positive process to get the development to this stage, with great engagement from the local community at the offset generating spin-off benefits for the wider area.
“It’s now gratifying to hear that these social housing units are the finest that the association have ever received.”
The new homes have enjoyed strong support from locals as well as backing from the Scottish Government, with building work starting in August last year.
Neil Edgar, development manager of Melville Housing Association, said: “These properties are part of a fantastic development and are a very welcome addition to our housing stock.
“These are the best new build homes and flats we’ve ever received and to have them in such a desirable location is ideal, with a wide range of local amenities such as schools and shops.
“This represents our first project with CALA Homes and we hope to build on this experience and work together on more developments in the future.
“We’re also indebted to the Scottish Government and Midlothian Council for their support on this project as well as others across the county.”
