Housing leaders to attend Community Empowerment event
Housing association leaders are signing up to attend this month’s Community Empowerment seminar to learn of the implications of the new Act which allows community groups to acquire land and property from public authorities.
The event is sponsored by Scottish Housing News and features a wide range of expert speakers.
One of the organisers of the event, advocate Mark Lazarowicz, said: “The Community Empowerment (Scotland) Act introduces a powerful new right for community bodies to take over the ownership, or lease, many public assets. Depending on the extent to which a housing association or co-op is controlled by the local community, it might qualify as ‘community controlled’ body which can then ask for asset transfer from local authorities, health boards, the police, the Scottish Government, and many other public bodies.”
