Ian joined the regulator in 2009 to head up the team that led on the regulation of the financial health of registered social landlords, before taking on the director’s role to oversee the delivery of overall regulation in 2018. Ian provided leadership through two major reviews of the regulatory framework and a number of major statutory interventions, and was instrumental in modernising the Regulator’s business intelligence system.

Chief executive Michael Cameron said: “Ian has been at the heart of the Regulator’s work for over a decade, and he has helped to shape the effective regulation of social landlords in Scotland. He will be greatly missed, but leaves a strong team with a clear vision.”

Ian said: “I have been very fortunate to work with able and dedicated colleagues throughout my time at the Regulator.  And the sector is well served by hard working housing professionals, talented advisors and committed private lenders and investors with whom it has been a pleasure to work. So it will be a major wrench to leave SHR but I feel that this is the right time.”

The Regulator will now start the process to recruit to the post of director of regulation.
