Improved planning consent sought for 105 new East Kilbride homes
Swan Group has applied for planning consent for a 105-home development at Law Place, East Kilbride on behalf of Link Group Ltd.
The company, which specialises in the development and delivery of affordable housing, acquired the site with the benefit of planning consent for a smaller scheme, however the application for the significantly improved housing development has been submitted following successful pre-application discussions with South Lanarkshire Council.
Link Group Ltd has appointed Swan Group as both principal designer and contractor to complete the development, which comprises of a mix of terraced housing and flats.
MAST Architects have been commissioned to design the development and work is expected to start in early 2018, to be completed in 2019.
The project, in partnership with Link, will form a vital part of South Lanarkshire Council’s aim to address the high demand for new affordable homes throughout the area. The council has already set a target of 500 new homes under their ownership by 2020 to be boosted by around 2,500 homes for housing associations within this period.
Phil McGinlay, managing director of Swan Group, said: “This development demonstrates our commitment to collaborating with Registered Social Landlords (RSLs) and local authorities such as Link Group and South Lanarkshire Council. We all share an ambition to deliver high quality, affordable housing to meet the growing demand across Scotland.”
Ross Martin, Link Group’s chairman, said: “Developments like Law Place in East Kilbride will help to address the real need for rental accommodation that is affordable, for people on relatively low or fixed incomes. Link can help to provide a secure future for them by working with developers like Swan Group, who also understand this market.”
