Working with developer AG Akermo and Gary Paterson Architect, the Association wants to redevelop the B-listed Burnside Mill on Milne’s East Wynd into 69 flats for rent.

Under the plans, there would be a mixture of one, two and three-bedroom apartments, each with their own balcony, as well as 33 parking spaces and bike storage.

A pre-planning public engagement event was held at Lochee Community Hub on last week.

Angela Linton, Hillcrest chief executive, told Scottish Housing News: “Alongside contractor AG Akermo and G Paterson Architect, we’re delighted to have the potential opportunity to develop the currently derelict wing of Burnside Mill in Dundee into 69 high quality affordable apartments.

“Burnside Mill, which was part of Dundee’s iconic Camperdown Works – once one of the world’s largest jute mills, has a huge heritage that we’re delighted to be able to preserve for the future. If the project goes ahead, our plan would also see parts of the historic building’s facade restored using like-for-like materials to maintain its original appearance.

“We’re currently in the process of consulting with the local community regarding the plans. Our hope is that the modern energy efficient properties that we aim to create will not only offer a fantastic boost to Dundee’s affordable housing stock, but also offer homes with character and identity that tenants will be proud to call home.”
