A bespoke property factoring service operating across Scotland has announced a major new recruit.
Nic Mayall, formerly managing director of James Gibb and a past president of the Property Managers Association Scotland (PMAS), played a key role in transforming James Gibb into one of Scotland’s largest factoring businesses.
Joining Taylor & Martin, he brings more than two decades of industry experience to the growing firm which, different to sector norms, has a pricing structure based on a flat management fee rather than commission to make sure its premium service is both transparent and cost effective for clients.
Nic said: “Too many homeowners have been frustrated by volume-driven services where overstretched property managers simply can’t provide the attention their properties need. Taylor & Martin does things differently — its entire model is built on transparency and bespoke service, ensuring every development gets the care it deserves.
“Factoring has long suffered from an image problem, seen as a ‘forced purchase’ rather than a valuable service. But that perception is changing – the property factoring industry in Scotland is at a turning point. The so-called ‘cheaper’ options often cost homeowners more in the long run, whether through inflated insurance premiums or poor maintenance that leads to costly repairs. More homeowners and developers now recognise that while cost matters, value matters more.
“Taylor & Martin has grown while providing personal service, quality maintenance, no hidden fees and no commission. They are proving factoring can be done properly. That’s why I’m excited to be part of this team.”
Nic will take up the role of senior associate alongside his former colleague David Jones. Together, the pair will be responsible for new business, and ensuring that as new clients are onboarded, the high service levels remain.
Director Michael Martin aims to cement the firm’s reputation as Scotland’s most trusted factoring service – and Nic’s appointment is a key step towards that goal.
Michael commented: “Bringing Nic on board is a huge coup for Taylor & Martin – his experience in growing factoring businesses is second to none, and his expertise and values align perfectly with ours. His reputation speaks for itself.
“We’re focused on building a business to deliver real value to homeowners and developers, and it’s clear to us that demand for premium factoring services is continuing to grow. I think that’s what led Nic to choose to join us. Nic’s appointment ensures we have the expertise to expand sustainably while maintaining the highest standard, sticking to our premium, bespoke model.”
Martin and co-director Marc Taylor founded Taylor & Martin in 2013. It now looks after properties – from new builds to tenements – across Scotland, working with the country’s leading property developers including Drum, Artisan, Westpoint, Dundas and Cruden.
